      <Abstract>The state of Maharashtra having the second largest population in India ranks fifth in the country in terms of Human Development Index (HDI). In spite of&#13;
that, it is having 24.5% of population below Poverty line (BPL). Though this&#13;
figure is below the all India level of 29.8% but questions can always be asked on&#13;
various social assistance programmes implemented by the government and its&#13;
outcomes. The state has implemented various financial assistance programmes like&#13;
Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, National Handicap Pension Scheme,&#13;
__ampersandsign National Widow Pension Scheme, National Maternity Benefit Scheme (NMBS) etc.&#13;
This research paper focuses on the various financial schemes of the Government of&#13;
Maharashtra and tries to find out its reach to the right beneficiaries and its outcomes.</Abstract>
