In general a population will tend to increase in number when the available resources are greater than that required by the members of the population present at that particular time. As long as resources are available, every population has the tendency to grow exponentially. Overpopulation is caused by number of factors. Reduced mortality rate, better medical facilities, depletion of precious resources, war and social conflict, limits on personal freedom, overcrowding and the health and survival of other species are few of the causes which result in overpopulation. It is possible for a sparsely populated area to become densely populated.
