Category: Marketing Management

Abstract:

This paper discusses about the organised retail industry in India in general and about the organised retail stores in Pune in detail. Organized retailing is showing signs of enormous creativity. It has emerged as one of the most dynamic and fast paced industries with several players entering the market. As a matter of fact, retailing in India is gradually edging its way towards becoming the Pune next boom industry. In India the vast middle class and its almost untapped retail industry are the key attractive forces for global retail giants wanting to enter into newer markets, which in turn will help the Indian Retail Industry to grow faster. Food and grocery segment presents the most significant potential in the Indian context as consumer spending is highest on food. Over the past few decades a number of organised players have come up in this sector and hence the researcher decided to study the organised retail grocery stores in Pune city. The objective of the study was to find out the different formats of organised retailing and to understand the problems faced by the organised retail stores in Pune. The study found that the organised retail stores faced problems and the researcher has given suggestions to overcome the problems faced by the organised retail stores.
